UK Bus

With a fleet of some 5,250 buses, Arriva is one of the UK’s largest operators, providing services for customers in London, the north east, north west and south east of England, Yorkshire, the Midlands and Wales.

The UK bus market is now at a mature stage of liberalisation and Arriva has been involved from the very beginning. Outside of London, the market has been privatised since the 1980s and operates on a commercial basis. Our relationship is directly with the passenger and revenue principally comes from the customer or from carrying concessionary travellers.

Our regional bus services

As the third largest bus provider in the UK regional market, Arriva primarily operates commercial routes. In some instances we also provide contracted services for local authorities as well as dedicated airport-related or express commuter transport.

Successes at a glance:

  • More than £75 million invested in new vehicles for Arriva’s fleet in 2013.
  • Overall customer satisfaction has been 90 per cent or above over the past 10 years.
  • Arriva’s eco-driving programme is saving 4-5 per cent per annum on fuel usage.
  • Arriva played a major role in the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games, with more than 600 vehicles and 1,600 drivers across the capital.

Our london bus services

In London we run nearly 20 per cent of the  bus services under contract with Transport for London (TfL). We cover more than 60 million miles and 400 million passenger journeys every year. It is this experience and our reputation for quality that has helped us consistently win new contracts and secure renewals from TfL since we entered the market in 1994.

Successes at a glance:

  • Arriva London was the first company selected to operate the new ‘Bus for London’ – a green hybrid version of the classic Routemaster.
  • Our state-of-the-art control centres offer real-time information about the location of our 1,600 buses, alerting drivers and controllers to traffic issues.
  • On-board eco systems are fitted to vehicles to reduce fuel consumption and emissions.

Around the Arriva bus network

In addition to our commercial or contracted Arriva-branded services we also operate locally branded services, including Hinckley Bus, Yorkshire Tiger, Wardle Transport and Network Colchester.

Our Green Line coach service provides regular services between London and the Home Counties. Arriva-owned TGM Group runs the majority of our transportation for airports and airlines, including terminal transfer services, crew and passenger coach movements, car park and hotel shuttle bus contracts.

We operate open-top bus tours of London through our commercial sightseeing business, The Original Tour. Arriva Bus and Coach retails new and second-hand buses and coaches, and provides fleets for short and long-term rental.

Arriva also owns a majority stake in Zeta Automotive, a technology company that has developed a range of leading-edge products that are helping to reduce fuel consumption and emissions.
