Arriva North East scoops three top safety awards

Sunderland-based bus operator Arriva North East has scooped three top safety awards from The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA).
Safety conscious Arriva are the winners of Gold Awards for both the Management of Health and Safety and Management of Road Risk categories in this year’s RoSPA Health and Safety awards.
Recognising its strong health and safety management systems RoSPA has also shortlisted Arriva as one of the top three national performers for the Management of Occupational Road Risk Trophy. Arriva has secured a Major Award in this category and will find out if its been successful in securing the top trophy at a ceremony next month.
Winning the awards reinforces Arriva’s commitment to ensuring the safety of its employees and customers as its number one priority, and clearly demonstrates high levels of performance in this crucial area.
Walter Herring, risk manager for Arriva North East, said: “Safety is at the heart of all that we do at Arriva and this award recognises our continuous focus on improving safety. Our recent customer and employee surveys have shown marked improvements in responses relating to safety by both passengers and employees. It is particularly gratifying that the progress we have made is not only being recognised by RoSPA, but also by our employees and our customers.”

The Managing Occupational Road Risk Trophy Major Award will be presented at a ceremony at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel, on 15 May, alongside Safety & Health Expo 2008, the UK’s premier health and safety at work exhibition.
