Arriva welcomes partnership approach in draft Local Transport Bill

22 May 2007

Arriva plc today welcomed the publication of the Government’s draft Local Transport Bill.

Steve Clayton, group managing director - corporate affairs, said:

We back the broad approach of encouraging operators and stakeholders to work in partnership to ensure our millions of passengers get the best services possible.
We know from experience on the ground that where all parties are committed to existing voluntary partnership arrangements there are significant benefits for passengers.
We are pleased that the draft bill clearly signals the importance of local authorities making a contribution to bus punctuality alongside the private sector, and that the Department for Transport wishes to build on the private sector’s strengths in management, innovation and investment.
As the Secretary of State has stressed today, there is no ‘one size fits all’ when it comes to improving services and it is important that this is reflected in the final bill.
There is much detail to consider and we look forward to making a constructive response within the consultation framework.
