One driver from each of Arriva’s UK regional bus businesses has scooped the ‘Bus Driver X Factor’ title, after customers from their area voted them as their number one drivers.

Earlier in the year Arriva asked its passengers to nominate their favourite drivers based on their customer service skills and ability to go the ‘Xtra mile’ for passengers.

Following the appeal, hundreds of people nominated the drivers they wanted to be recognised for their friendliness, dedication and customer care.  The best of the crop made a shortlist of between three and five finalists in each region, with the public’s votes deciding the winners.

The ‘Bus Driver X Factor’ winners are: Bernie Hayes – Arriva Midlands; Bernie Reynolds – Arriva North West; Paul Dashwood - Arriva Shires & Essex; Darren Smith - Arriva Cymru; Kelly Snowdon - Arriva North East; Willie Milroy - Scotland West; Daniel James – Arriva Southern Counties; and Tony Hewkin – Arriva Yorkshire.  

David Shadbolt, marketing manager for Arriva UK Regions, said: “Congratulations to each and every one of these drivers. Each nominee received fantastic words of encouragement from local people and the number of votes they received highlights their popularity with passengers.

“Our drivers are in the spotlight when it comes to meeting the public. The ‘Bus Driver X Factor’ competition provides the opportunity for our customers to show their recognition and thanks for the work these drivers do. The level of public support demonstrated makes us immensely proud.”
