Bus operator Arriva today announced it will be introducing a fleet of brand new vehicles into North Wales.
From 17 June, a total of 21 new buses will hit the road, representing an investment of over £2.5 million from the region’s largest public transport company. They will mainly be employed on the popular 12 service, between Rhyl and Llandudno, and will all be low floor, enabling easier access for those with mobility problems and mums with prams. CCTV is also fitted to each vehicle for added safety.
The buses will also feature the latest in environmental standards; a pioneering new fuel process that produces exhaust fumes comprising mainly of steam! This will be achieved by using a substance called Adblue, which reacts with the exhaust to produce nitrogen and steam, both of which are harmless.
Bob Hind, managing director for Arriva North West and Wales, said:
Councillor. Trefor Roberts, chairman of Taith, the North Wales public transport board, said:"This is Arriva’s single biggest investment in the Welsh bus market and will have a hugely positive benefit for the people of North Wales.
"Not only have we spent £2.5 million on new buses, but existing low-floor vehicles will also be transferred onto other routes, meaning that the number of easy access buses in the area will increase dramatically. The environmental impact is also important and clearly demonstrates our continued commitment to cleaner air".
"I'm very pleased to see such a significant investment in public transport for North Wales. The buses themselves are very impressive; they look extremely comfortable and there is plenty of room for wheelchair access and prams. We should be encouraging as many people as possible to make use of such a high quality service".
