Arriva Trains Wales wins safety award
13 March 2007
A train driver commentary technique developed by Arriva Trains Wales in partnership with consultancy Halcrow has won an industry award.
The prestigious HSBC Rail Business Awards took place in the presence of 800 senior figures in the UK rail industry at London’s Grosvenor House. The awards reward excellence in business, technology and engineering as well as safety and security in stations and trains.
Arriva and Halcrow’s Risk Triggered Commentary (RTC) technique is used as tool to help drivers to improve their memory recall to reduce the risk of an operational incident. The technique has been proven to improve memory retention and control risk from distractions through a verbal rehearsal during risk situations.
The benefits extend further than train driving and can apply to a range of staff that carry-out safety critical tasks.
