Depot delight! Facilities transformed at Arriva in Johnstone

2 May 2006

Unveiling of plaque at Johnstone bus depot

A vision to transform a bus depot into a depot for the 21 st century has now become a reality following the completion of Arriva's Johnstone depot. To mark this important event Joan Aitken, traffic commissioner for Scotland , kindly agreed to officially launch the new facilities.

There were celebrations all round as the depot's refurbishment was successfully completed: gone are the outdated facilities, the poorly lit building, and the crowded areas. In their place is a bright building with areas to relax during breaks, proper mess facilities, a training suite – comprising of instructors office, learning centre equipped with computers and a theory test room.

Ian Craig, director, and general manager said:

The wheels for this project were set in motion 18 months ago, the refurbishment project took 5 months, so it is really good to see all our plans come to fruition.
We would also like this opportunity to thank the traffic commissioner for taking time out of her busy schedule to re-open the depot.

Mike Cooper, managing director UK Regions, added:

I am sure that the upgrades at Johnstone have created a much more pleasant environment for all 230 employees who are based there. The investment demonstrates our confidence in Johnstone depot and its future.
