- Significant investment represents Arriva's commitment to Wales
- Vastly improved working conditions for employees
The deputy minister for economic development and transport, Tamsin Dunwoody AM, will officially open Arriva's new Bangor garage on 9 February 2006.
Benefiting from an investment of over £1 million, the garage, which is now situated on Llandygai Industrial Estate, has been transformed into a modern, efficient workplace with state of the art facilities. It has replaced the ageing Beach Road facility in Bangor city centre, which was originally built in 1931.
Buses from the new garage, which operate a number of Arriva services in the area, carry more than 120,000 customers every month and travel some 2 million miles across North Wales every year.
Housing 46 vehicles, the garage is the base for a workforce of over 120 people, including drivers, clerical employees and engineers. It features three new engineering bays, bus fuelling and washing facilities and purpose built office space with fully disabled access.
Bob Hind, managing director of Arriva North West and Wales, said:
This investment in Bangor clearly demonstrates our commitment to providing quality bus services in North Wales. The development has resulted in the provision of a modern, efficient garage delivering over 30,000 passenger journeys every week. Throughout the development, our employees have ensured that there has been no disruption to services for our customers.
