Swansea trains and 'all that jazz'
27 January 2006
Music will be brought to the ears of passengers travelling on the Heart of Wales Line on Sunday 2 February 2006 as an Arriva 'jazz' train makes its journey between Swansea and Llandovery.
'The Creole Jazz Quartet' has been accompanying selected Arriva Trains Wales Sunday services on the 120-mile Heart of Wales Line for over a year and have proved hugely popular with rail passengers and day trippers.
The jazz trains coincide with a 'Rail and Roast' package which runs every Sunday where travellers can combine a scenic trip with Sunday lunch at one of the many pubs and hotels along the line.
Julian Viggers, station manager for Arriva Trains Wales, said:
A scenic trip along the Heart of Wales Line accompanied by 'live' jazz is a fantastic way to travel - stopping at one of the many pubs along the way for a Sunday roast completes an ideal day out.
The jazz train leaves Swansea at 11.06am, calling at Gowerton (11.17) and Llanelli (11.26) and arriving at Llandeilo (12.03), Llangadog (12.15), Llanwrda (12.19) and Llandovery (12.25) in time for Sunday lunch. Full train times and a list of participating pubs and hotels can be obtained by picking up a leaflet at Neath, Port Talbot, Swansea and Llanelli Stations or by visiting www.heart-of-wales.co.uk/events . Return trains leave Llandovery at 2.34pm and 6.51pm.
Seats on the popular jazz train can be reserved by calling in to any Arriva Trains Wales staffed station. Meals should be booked in advance to avoid disappointment.
Sample fares, excluding lunch, include Swansea-Llandovery for £5.60 return and Llanelli-Llandeilo for £3.10 return. Reductions for group travellers and holders of Carmarthenshire County Council bus passes are also available.
Jazz trains will also run on Sunday 5 March and on Mother's Day, Sunday 26 March 2006.
