Bus driver Stephen gets licence - to drive computer!

Wood Green based Arriva bus driver, Stephen Woolnough, has become the first person using Arriva London's learning centres to achieve a full qualification – ironically, another kind of driving licence, the ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence)!
The course was delivered in Arriva's learning centre, and Steven took the necessary examinations at partner organisation the College of North East London.
Mark Yexley, managing director for Arriva London, said:
The learning centres, which Arriva operates in partnership with the Transport and General Workers' Union are designed to give all employees the opportunity to learn new skills and gain qualifications and we are delighted that Stephen has achieved this qualification and would like to send him our congratulations.
The European Computer Driving Licence covers – Basic concepts of IT: using the computer and managing files; word processing; spreadsheets; databases; presentation; information and communication.
Adi Okaru, from Arriva's training centre added:
Stephen came to the centre, knowing exactly what he wanted. The centre offered him the opportunity to achieve his aspiration. What is marvelous about Stephen is that he showed real commitment and the dedication needed to succeed.
