Arriva and age concern help ‘silver surfers’ make the most of I.T!
16 March 2005
Local bus and rental company, Arriva, is donating £4,000 to Age Concern Hertfordshire so that the organisation can continue to give more older people the opportunity to get to grips with the ever changing world of I.T.
The dedicated computer training facility, based in Hatfield, gives older people the opportunity to use computer technology to keep in touch with family and friends, use the Internet to find out bus and train timetables, and even order their shopping online for home delivery.
The project started in 2002 and since then over 200 older people, some in their eighties, have taken advantage of the computer training with many saying the opportunity had greatly improved the quality of their lives.
Heath Williams, managing director for Arriva the Shires and Essex, said:
We were delighted to donate £4,000 to help the centre.
Arriva has relationships with, and has provided support to, Age Concern groups elsewhere in the country – and so I am particularly pleased that we can support such a valuable scheme right here in Hertfordshire.
Marion Birch, chief executive for Age Concern Hertfordshire, added:
Arriva's donation has ensured more older people have access to the many benefits that the internet offers, with previous users now using e-mail to stay in touch with loved ones. By working with Arriva we can continue to make a difference for older people with this project.
