Vince rewarded for outstanding personal contribution

6 January 2005

Vince Goane, one of Arriva London's general managers, has been rewarded by Transport for London for his outstanding personal contribution to the bus industry. Vince received an award from London Mayor, Ken Livingstone in recognition of his 30 years' commitment to improving bus services in the capital.

The award was made following nominations by Arriva London managing director, Mark Yexley and voting by a committee of senior managers at Transport for London .

Vince began his career as a bus driver operating in Enfield back in May 1974. Since then, Vince has held positions as an inspector, a garage inspector, an assistant operating manager, operating manager and now general manager with responsibility for Tottenham, Clapton, Stamford Hill, Barking and Leeside Road garages. As general manager, Vince has responsibility for around 1,500 employees and works with a team of managers to ensure the efficient service of some 450 buses.

And the bus industry has become something of a family affair for Vince too - with one son and a brother also working for Arriva in London .

Vince commented:

I was surprised but very pleased to receive this award. I have been committed to trying to keep improving the bus industry for over 30 years and this recognition is fantastic.
In my time at Arriva, I have overseen the opening of new garages, the operation of new contracts, introducing articulated buses to services in London and, most recently, the opening of a learning centre at Tottenham Garage. I am immensely proud to have been part of the team that has made such achievements in London .

Mark Yexley, managing director for Arriva London, said:

I am delighted that Vince has had his dedication and commitment to the bus industry recognised in this way. When asked to nominate for this award, I had no hesitation in putting Vince forward and am not at all surprised that he was chosen to win the award.

Vince has five children ranging in age from 25 to 42 and nine grandchildren.
