Rail company launches Welsh language phone line

10 June 2004

Welsh speakers will now be able to contact their local rail company through the medium of Welsh thanks to a new Customer Services facility launched by Arriva Trains Wales/Arriva Trenau Cymru.

The company has introduced the Welsh language phone line as part of major improvements to its customer services department which includes longer opening hours and a state-of-the-art new telephone system.

Ian Bullock, customer services director for Arriva Trains Wales/Trenau Arriva Cymru, said:

As the national train operator of Wales , it is our policy to positively encourage the use of the Welsh language and to further improve the availability of bilingual information.
We are committed to delivering the highest quality train services and customer service across the whole of Wales. Contact with our customers is the key to running a successful railway and a Welsh language customer services facility will hopefully encourage more of our customers to give us their valuable feedback and help us to deliver the services they want,

he said.

The new bilingual customer services facility follows the recent installation of a £2.5 million real-time customer information system at 46 stations in Wales, which includes both bilingual audio announcements and visual displays.

Customers wishing to use the Welsh language service should call the normal Arriva Trains Wales customer services number on 0845 6061 660 and choose the relevant option.
