Since 2001 we have invested some one billion Euros in improving and growing services for our customers. With over 13,000 vehicles our services connect communities, help ensure greater mobility and contribute to economic growth. Public transport plays a key role in reducing traffic congestion, accidents, noise and emissions while providing people with a real travelling choice. Wherever possible we introduce low floor, easy access busses with features designed to improve the journey for all. Over the past five years we’ve invested more than £245 million in new and refurbished busses in the UK. These investments have been matched by enhanced services, marketing and improved customer information.
Arriva is London’s largest bus operator, moving more than one million people every day. Twice as many people travel by bus in London than on the underground. We also run London’s leading sightseeing tour with over one million journeys a year. Our UK bus and coach operation sells new and high quality used vehicles.
In both Italy and Denmark Arriva is the largest private bus operator. We operate a range of integrated bus, coach and rail services in the Netherlands. As part of our 15-year rail franchise we are introducing over €130 million worth of new trains. In Portugal we operate busses in the Northwest and South of the country, we also own 21.5% of Barraqueiro, Portugal’s leading passenger transport group. We also successfully provide bus services in the Czech republic, Germany, Spain and Sweden. In Denmark we were the first private company to win passenger rail franchises. Arriva Tog provides services in Jutland and is the best performing train operator in the country. We have expanded our presence in the German rail market with several successful franchise bids and joint services with the Swiss and Czech state railways.
Arriva has also won a nine-year contract to operate rail services in southern Sweden from June 2007. In the UK Arriva Trains Wales provides inter-urban, rural and commuter services throughout Wales and the English border counties. Working with the Welsh Assembly Government we’re investing in improving stations, trains, security and customer information. Providing a safe environment for our customers and employees is vital. We have invested in a number of initiatives, including CCTV cameras onto bus and train services and at stations. We increasingly use Global Positioning Systems to improve service delivery. Arriva has pioneered technology that records critical information about incidents involving customers, employees or vehicles.
Our employees are central to our success. We invest in our
people through a wide range of training initiatives, this includes
on line programs to enhance employees disability awareness,
customer service skills and personal development. Arriva aims to

through the efficient use of energy and raw materials, minimization
of waste and use of alternative fuel sources. Communicating with
