Health and safety policy
As part of the arrangements for safety the company recognises the need to review its processes from time to time. Arriva plc's overall safety policy statement has been amended to more effectively articulate the businesses approach to safety management.
Safety policy statement
Arriva plc recognises the fundamental importance of safety within the business. It aims to ensure the safety of all our employees and customers through:
- effective policies and processes
- providing premises and equipment that are safe
- taking all reasonable steps to avoid any risk to health, and
- appropriate training, information and supervision.
In support of this, specific policies have been established to cover key aspects of safety.
The safety policy of the company is determined by the Board of Directors. The Arriva Board Safety Committee meets on a regular basis to advise the Board of Directors on the adequacy and effectiveness of the overall safety policy of the group. This committee reviews self-certification reports, key performance indicators relating to safety, and monitors relevant legislative, regulatory, scientific and technological developments.
The executive management is responsible for the operation of the business in line with the approved safety policy. It is the responsibility of all employees to operate in a safe manner and to seek to prevent accidents and risks to health.
The Arriva safety management system contains the framework policies for Arriva plc. This defines the minimum standards that must be applied throughout the business irrespective of location. The Arriva safety management system includes the self-audit and self-certification policy that requires safety-accountable senior managers to review, on a regular basis, safety standards, performance and management. In each business safety policies and processes are updated from time to time to reflect changes in legislation, best practice, and working circumstances.
