Community relations

Good public transport is the lifeblood of any community, but we go beyond this in seeking ways to serve our communities in the UK and mainland Europe.

Management

Our Corporate Responsibility Committee is chaired by an executive director and comprises representatives from across the group. It continues to work towards our vision:

"As a people business, we value, encourage and celebrate the contribution our employees and others make to the communities we serve."

Our community relations policy focuses on the communities the Arriva Group serves.

Regional activity

In the UK
Each Arriva operating company is responsible for driving community activities in its locality. Initiatives to date include:

  • Providing free transport for community groups
  • Supporting local organisations and charities with free advertising on buses
  • Visiting schools to spread safety messages to youngsters
  • Making financial donations to support fundraising efforts by local charities and employees
  • Holding a Citizenship awards event
  • Organising charity fundraising golfing days

In mainland Europe
Arriva Nederland has supported:

  • Doo een Wens, the Dutch Make a Wish Foundation which grants the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses
  • Cool Flevoland, an initiative to increase young people's interest in a range of social issues
  • Dance4Life, a charity set up by young people to encourage other young people across the world to fight the spread of Aids

Unfortunately we cannot support all the requests for support that we receive. If you are a charitable organisation or community group who would like our support, please read our community relations policy before contacting us.

Developing and working in partnership

Partnership working with suitable organisations is a feature of our community relations programme. We aim to build long-term relationships with community partners, not just for the benefit of the charity or community organisation, but also for the benefit of the company. Our support may be financial or practical, and sometimes involves the direct support of our employees.

Employees in the community

Many of our employees give their time to local community groups and projects. We recognise these efforts through our Arriva Community Actions Awards initiative, which makes cash awards available to employees for their community organisations.
