Our approach

For Arriva, corporate responsibility means:

  • Maximising our contribution to the communities we serve.
  • Minimising our impact on the environment.

Our Board of Directors recognises that our long-term success depends on positive community relationships, and on our values being embedded into our company culture.

To this end, the Corporate Responsibility Working Group, composed of representatives from each Arriva business, reports regularly to the Board on best practice and new initiatives.

Focus areas

Corporate responsibility covers a huge range of issues. We have identified the following as being key to our ability to act as a responsible corporate citizen:

Health and safety

The safety of our customers and employees is our top operational priority.

Environment

We believe that our business – the promotion and provision of public transport – is an environmentally beneficial alternative to many forms of private transport. However, we also work hard to reduce the environmental impact of our services and our business activities.

Employees

We also have a responsibility to our employees: to encourage diversity, to support their professional development, and to recognise their contribution to the group and to their local communities.

Communities

Transport is a vital function of everyday life, and we recognise that we play a key role in the social and economic life of the nine European countries we operate in.

We have formalised our principles and practice in many aspects of these key areas. See our policy documents for full details.
